Question:
Why do I get the error message, "dbutil_sys_settings - opendb: Management Error #-20064" when starting a program?

Answer:
SYMPTOMS:
The following error message appears when starting the program: "dbutil_sys_settings - opendb: Management Error #-20064" on a Macintosh
network. The program does not run.

CAUSE:
During installation, the program was installed directly to the server. This sometimes locks the files and/or turns the sharebit off. This may not
allow anyone, or sometimes just one student, to access the program.

SOLUTION:
Reinstall the program from a workstation copy. Specifically, delete the current installation. Install to a Macintosh workstation, then test the local workstation copy. If it works, Copy and Paste it up to the server. Configure all the workstations and test it further. (The install to a workstation first, seems to make sure that the settings end up correct when it is finally placed on the server.)

Question:
Installing Diascriptive Reading II

Answer:
Please use these directions for installing and operating the Diascriptive Reading II program:

First, make sure any virus protection is disabled during installation.

Put the CD-ROM in the drive and click on it to open it. You should see a box titled, "DRII SA Installation."

Icons should be visible. On the left there should be an icon labeled, " EA Manager CD Installer." On the right, "DRII SA Installer."

Click 2x on the "EA Manager CD Installer" icon and follow the on-screen instructions. When this is completed, click on the "DRII SA Installer" and follow the on-screen instructions. The final screen you should see will say at the bottom, "Update complete."

To run the program, click on the DR II "book" icon in that original box. You can drag this icon to the desktop to make it easier for the students to access the program.

To check scores in management, open the EA Manager file, which is the icon with a magnifying glass. The password is "teacher." You may want to hide the Manager from your students. I don't know how you manage the desktop, i.e., if you use Foolproof, At-Ease, etc.

If you find this program to be what you're looking for, we do have a hard drive installable program, which eliminates the need for students to handle the CD's. This is purchase option available to you.

Occasionally, due to screen savers, insufficient memory, or computer "gremlins," the connection between the management and the program doesn't occur and you will see an error message when students attempt to access the program. In that case, go to the EA Manager file on the hard drive, click and open it, scroll down to a file labeled "addprogs," click on it and the connection should be made (you will see a message "update completed"). Use this only if there's a problem.
